The main effect of offering Tarpan is to ease the passage of the ancestors to higher levels, overcoming their need to revisit familiar places and yearnings for unfulfilled desires. if the jatak prays with a pure desire that they find peace while doing the daily tarpan; letting water through each finger is for each type of pitri, from rishis of one’s gotra to one’s immediate family deceased recently. it releases them from their need to act through the jataka, freeing his soul to pursue it’s goal, unfettered by the unfulfilled wishes and desires of pitris, who may even help or guide in case of Magha or other Ketu nakshatra natives who have an obligation for the clan.
