Retrograde Venus

Namaste Sir:

You said Venus becomes retrograde when it is just one sign away from the sun.In one chart for example sun is in cancer and Venus in Leo but it’s not showing retro in astrosage software?Kindly tell me how to calculate this?

And also tell me how many places away from the sun,Mercury and mars becomes retrograde?
