359 days is used by most. You can play with it.
No competent astrologer only uses Vimshotri because it has so many variations, you mentioned one. Then there’s the debate of using tribaghi or not.
Vimshottri is a good place to start but should be used in combination with other dasas like Kaal-Chakra, Yogini & 1 Jaimini Dasha, I like Char Dasha to time events.
